Hull City goalkeeper David Marshall appears set to leave the club when his current contract with The Tigers expires at the end of the season.

Marshall has been a regular between the posts this season, with Monday's 3-0 defeat at home to Sheffield United marking the first time this season that Marshall has failed to start a Championship game for the Tigers.

Speaking to The Hull Daily Mail about the future of the 34-year-old, manager Nigel Adkins suggested the Scotsman's time at the KCOM Stadium could be coming to an end, saying: “We’ve got another couple of games to go and we’ll do what’s right for the club, with a mindset for next season."

This is Marshall's third season at the club since joining from Cardiff City in the summer of 2016, with the 34-year-old making 67 appearances in all competitions for Hull during his time at the club.

So would letting Marshall go be the right move for Hull? We asked some of our Football League World writers for their thoughts.

Jacob Potter

"This is the best move for both parties involved.

"Marshall has regularly featured for Hull this season, but there are better options out there for Nigel Adkins' side.
"He's likely to be one of the highest earners at the club as well, so they need to free up the wage bill.
"This is the correct decision in my eyes."
Ben Lang
"I'm not too sure this is a good move from Hull.
"Marshall has consistently performed well this season, but he's suddenly been ousted for George Long for no clear reason.
"I can understand Adkins wanting to prioritise his younger players, but Marshall could have been a good presence in the dressing room even if not playing next season."
Toby Wilding
"This seems surprising to me.
"Marshall hasn’t done a lot wrong this season and at 34, he still has plenty of time left as a goalkeeper. "Continuing to change the man behind you year on year may not be the most settling thing for the defence in front of him either."
Chris Gallagher
"It's an understandable decision from a financial perspective.
"The keeper will be a big earner at Hull and they are clearly going to try and cut costs over the summer.
"However, he has been the number one this season and is a good keeper at this level so he will be tough to replace."
