Middlesbrough have been linked with a move for Birmingham City striker Isaac Vassell according to the Times, reported via Teesside Live.

The 25-year-old has spent most of this season out injured at Birmingham, but is now fit and finding first team chances hard to come by as Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams help fire them up the Championship table.

He's only managed 11 league matches for Birmingham since signing from Luton Town in 2016, for whom he scored 16 times in 55 games.

He began his career in the south west, released by Plymouth as a youngster only to go to Truro City and impress.

Boro are hunting recruits to help push them into the automatic promotion spots.

They led the table at point earlier in the season, but now sit inside the top six, three points clear of seventh and six shy of Norwich City in second.

Would Vassell be a good acquisition for Boro? or is his lack of experience on the bigger stage something to be wary of? Our FLW experts discuss.

Jacob Potter

"It'd be a waste of wages.

"If Vassell isn't getting into the Birmingham team, then what chance does he have of forcing himself into the starting XI at Middlesbrough anytime soon?

"Middlesbrough already have better options in attack, and they should focus on better alternatives elsewhere in this month's transfer window."

Louie Chandler

"This seems rather desperate to me.

"Pulis has more than enough striking options at his disposal and Vassell is far from proven at this level.

"It seems like the Boro boss is keen to bring any sort of attacking player in without giving too much thought to the effect on the team."

Jay Taylor

“This could be a good move, but I think Britt Assombalonga would need to go first.

“I see both as very similar players and the only was I see both of them at Boro is if Vassell is used more out wide.

“Tony Pulis has failed to replace Adama Traore and adding the Birmingham man could well see Pulis alter formation to suit the players he has.

“I think this could be a move that works out for all involved, should it come to fruition.”

Gary Hutchinson

"This'd be a ridiculous move.

"What has Vassell done to warrant the interest?

"Nothing. He's been out injured, but hasn't got a track record behind him.

"They should avoid at all costs."
