Reading FC could be set for an interesting season ahead, with Jose Gomes making a number of high-profile signings towards the end of the summer transfer to add some much-needed quality to his side.

George Puscas and Lucas Joao arrived to bolster Gomes' attacking options, but one player in particular that will be eager to prove himself to the Reading boss is USA international, Andrija Novakovich.

The forward netted a hat-trick for the Reading under 23's against Newcastle United earlier this week, which has led to fans calling for him to be given a start in the first-team in the near future.

Reading FC fan pundit, Jamie Gorman has issued his thoughts on Novakovich's future at Reading, and there are high hopes for the young striker.

"He’s had two excellent seasons out on loan and followed that up with a strong pre-season with our first-team.

"It’s a popular topic amongst fans but many feel he’s better than Danny Loader and Yakou Meite and should be higher up the pecking order."

Reading take on Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday in the Carabao Cup, and Gorman is keen to see Novakovich involved in the squad for the game, where the Royals will be expected to pick up their first win of the season.

"After starting the season with two defeats, we need a win and this is a great opportunity to get that confidence boosting win.

"I would though like to see him on the bench."

When quizzed on whether Novakovich should be ahead of Danny Loader in the pecking order in Jose Gomes' squad, Gorman is keen to see the American striker given an opportunity ahead of the England youth international in the near future.

"Absolutely yes, although Loader tends to play wide of the striker, or in a deeper role which hasn’t made much sense to a lot of fans."

Novakovich has spent the majority of his professional career out on loan, and he will have been keen to make a name for himself in the Reading team as soon as possible.

Gorman went on to admit that the striker could grow irritated at his lack of game time so far this season, and labelled this year's campaign as make or break for the 22-year-old.

"You couldn’t blame him if he does grow frustrated. This season is make or break for him, and he can walk away next summer for free as his contract is up at the end of the season.

"Today he scored a hat-trick for the U23’s against Newcastle and received well deserved praise from the opposition."
