Barnsley need to strengthen in a number of areas this summer.

They have been hit with an unfortunate mass exodus of most of their star players over the past year.

The likes of Alfie Mawson, Sam Winnall, Conor Hourihane, James Bree, Josh Scowen, Marley Watkins and more have all moved on.

The absence of Winnall is a big loss.

He was the key marksman when he featured up front for Barnsley.

His departure, as well as makeshift striker Marley Watkins' exit, has left Barnsley short up front.

Last season, they had Tom Bradshaw and Adam Armstrong up front.

But Armstrong has now returned to parent club Newcastle United and Barnsley need a new striker to compete with Bradshaw.

This could come in the shape of Oli McBurnie.

Swansea look set to complete the signing of Michy Batshuayi and they also have Fernando Llorente on their books.

Oli McBurnie does not look like he is about to break into the first team any time soon, despite his top displays for the youth sides.

The Scotland under-21 international was limited to just five Premier League outings last season, all of which came off the bench, even though he netted a brace in his only start (in the EFL Cup).

The towering 6ft 2in striker also scored five goals in four games in the EFL Trophy against League One and League Two opposition suggesting that he could be a shrewd move for a Championship club like Barnsley.

The 21-year-old might even be available on a permanent deal as he enters the final year of his Swansea deal.
