Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia is in talks to sell the club, according to the Birmingham Mail.

After rejecting a 51% takeover offer from a European buyer in the week, talks are now set to commence between Xia and two separate interested parties.

What do you make of this news? Was this always going to happen?

We discuss....

Alfie Burns

It isn’t really a surprise, with Villa’s financial difficulties common knowledge.

Xia has rolled the dice over the last two years, but it hasn’t worked.

Now feels the right time for him to walk away from the mess he has created.

Jay Williams

Dr Tony Xia needs to get this one over the line as soon as possible.

Given their current financial woes, Villa fans need something to get optimistic about and a new owner could come in and help them out.

If they are to mount another promotion challenge and keep their star players, then Xia needs to sell the club imminently.

George Dagless

This really was Inevitable.

Villa's owner obviously wants to keep hold of the club at all costs but that shouldn't include taking them to rack and ruin.

What sort of stake he gives up remains to be seen but it looks as though he's finally gone with his head than heart.

Gary Hutchinson

It isn't a surprise, he put all his money on black, spun the wheel and it came up red.

Aston Villa's promotion hopes were built on foundations of sand and now that has come back around and bitten them firmly on the behind.

I only hope the once-proud club can find a buyer quickly to prevent a catastrophic collapse of Portsmouth proportions.
