It was a reality check for Nottingham Forest manager Martin O'Neill at the weekend, after a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham City left Forest down in 12th place in the Championship, five points off the play-off spots.

It was O'Neill's third match in charge at the City Ground and was also the third start of the season for 35-year-old striker Daryl Murphy, who failed to score in any of them, having scored three goals in his 15 appearances so this season.

So should O'Neill consider dropping Murphy for Forest's next match against Brentford?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

“I think so.

“There was shock when he played the opening game for Karanka, so it’s even more bizarre he’s in now.

“There’s better players available to O’Neill.

“He has to get a grip and quick.”

Jacob Potter

"This really is a no brainer, surely?

"Murphy hasn’t been good enough all season and he shouldn’t even be in the starting XI ahead of Lewis Grabban anyway.

"Grabban is a proven goalscorer this season and is a far better option to have up-front for O’Neill’s side."

Alfie Burns

“He shouldn’t be starting over Lewis Grabban, it’s as simple as that.

“Murphy has his qualities, but starting him ahead of a man with 30 goals in the last 18 months is so strange.

“O’Neill is making a lot of mistakes, but this is his biggest.”

Jay Taylor

“I think so, as he is still learning his best XI.

“He has Grabban to come in and Leo Bonatini, too.

“Choosing a definitive front man will take time for O’Neil.

“There is some loyalty there because of their ROI days, but this is a new challenge and that should matter little in today’s climate.”
