Reading have picked up form recently as Mark Bowen remains unbeaten since he took over from former manager Jose Gomes.

The Welshman has been excellent since he's come in as first-team manager and has been influential in making the team pick up some more points.

This has seen the Royals move away from the relegation zone and into 17th position in the table, which leaves their season ready to go in either direction.

Reading have had one brilliant boost since the season started and that's because of left-back Jordan Obita returning to the squad after a two-year absence with awful injury problems.

Royals supporters greeted him with great applause when he started for the first time against Blackburn, and since he has even scored his first goal ever at the Madejski Stadium.

He's been ruled out of the game against Brentford on Saturday, and he also missed the fixture with Luton because of a groin injury. This means that Omar Richards will have an opportunity to continue impressing against Brentford after his superb performance before the international break.

He now has an opportunity to keep his place at left-wing back for the future as he looks to continue being a very good player in that position for Reading.

It really is a massive opportunity for him and if he can seize the moment, then there's no reason why he can't become a brilliant Championship player.

Richards has come through the academy at Reading, and that makes him well-liked by supporters. Another bonus for him is that there is another really good left-back in Obita which means when he plays he will always be on his game and aiming to perform better than him.

It's healthy competition in the squad and that's something that Bowen will love to see, but they have to keep their heads grounded. Richards now has one step into the role with a big opportunity to secure it with a strong performance against Brentford.
