Queens Park Rangers picked up their first win in seven by beating Preston 2-0 in the Championship on Saturday, and it was a first clean sheet of the season for Joe Lumley.

Going into the weekend, QPR were the only team in England's top-four divisions yet to have kept a clean sheet in the league this season.

It signified what's been a season of fine attacking football and often diabolic defending from QPR but on their 20th attempt, they finally kept a clean sheet and Lumley can now play without that omen hanging over him.

He had a good game in fairness, and made one top-drawer save in the second-half, getting down low to his left to see his side to victory. It was a sturdy defensive performance as well. Too often, Lumley, or whoever it's been in goal for QPR, has been let down by them in-front of the goal, but the likes of Toni Leistner and Grant Hall were excellent as well.

QPR were slowly slipping down the table and as their winless run extended each week, the players were taking more and more criticism from fans. Lumley in particular has been one who's felt the full force of online critics of late but he would've silenced a lot of them with the clean sheet, and fans will be more behind the 24-year-old with it.

He began the season as the number one having held that spot for the vast majority of last season. Though several games into the campaign it was summer-signing Liam Kelly who took the starting spot.

Kelly looked nervy at first but gradually grew in confidence and just as he was doing so became injured, handing the reigns back to Lumley who's now played the last five for QPR.

That maiden clean sheet was bound to come sooner or later and for Lumley to keep it, will give him a whole heap of confidence. He's part of the furniture at QPR but has often had his critics, and will be hoping to build on this clean sheet and firmly cement his starting spot under Warburton.
