This Premier League man could replace Andy Yiadom at Barnsley

Since winning promotion from League One to the Championship in May 2016, Barnsley have been unfortunately hit by a number of high profile departures.

Last summer, they lost Alfie Mawson and then they lost key trio James Bree, Conor Hourihane and Sam Winnall in the January transfer window.

However, they still managed to finish in a respectable mid-table position despite that exodus.

But it just continued this summer.

Josh Scowen and Marley Watkins decided to move on rather than sign new deals at Oakwell, switching to join QPR and Norwich respectively.

Marc Roberts has left to join Birmingham City and now it looks like Andy Yiadom is off to Huddersfield Town.

The Ghana international has refused a new contract in a bid to push through his move to the Premier League.

Losing Yiadom and Bree in the space of half a year has really left Barnsley light at right back going into the new season.

Paul Heckingbottom needs to start scouring the market soon to secure his replacement.

That could come in the form of Newcastle United defender Jamie Sterry, either on loan or permanently.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of last season on loan at Coventry City, where he stood out with his impressive displays at full back in a struggling team.

He returned to Newcastle in January but struggled with injuries, hampering his chances of playing first team football.

This summer, Newcastle have signed Javier Manquillo, who is likely to rival DeAndre Yedlin for the starting right back berth.

This leaves Sterry out of favour.

The Magpies will probably send their academy product back out on loan rather than selling him permanently but he would be an excellent short-term solution to the right back problem.

Barnsley fans – would you like to sign Sterry? Can he step up to replace Bree and Yiadom? Let us know below…
