Portsmouth were promoted as champions last season and they will be competing in League One next year as they aim to continue their ascent back towards the top of English football.
In order to continue progressing upwards, Pompey will need to do some good summer transfer business.
One position that needs addressing fairly promptly is goalkeeper.
David Forde spent last season on loan at Portsmouth and was solid between the sticks.
Portsmouth therefore need to replace him with someone equally as reliable in goal.
Under the guidance of new manager Kenny Jackett, Portsmouth could look to explore the loan market for potential deals.
If we marry these two ideas, Portsmouth should be targeting a loan move for Newcastle United goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
The Magpies, who were recently promoted back to the Premier League, currently have a number of stoppers on their books.
Karl Darlow, Matz Sels, Tim Krul and Rob Elliot will all compete for the first team starting spot next year and rumours have recently linked Newcastle with Pepe Reina and Adrian, meaning that Woodman will be very far down the pecking order.
The 20-year-old is considered to be one of England’s finest young goalkeepers and he recently proved his worth in the final of the under-20 world cup, helping England to victory over Venezuela by keeping a clean sheet and producing an excellent penalty save.
The England youth international was also highly impressive on loan at Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock last year and they want to re-sign him.
Portsmouth would have to move fast because plenty of teams will be interested in Woodman and he is likely to be available for loan.
