Sheffield Wednesday fell narrowly short of reaching the Premier League for the second season in a row as they suffered another case of play-off heartbreak.

After losing the final to Hull City at Wembley by one goal to nil last season, they were defeated on penalties against Huddersfield Town (the eventual winners) in the semi-final this year.

A big summer of business is being lined up by Carlos Carvalhal and his Sheffield Wednesday team.

He is ready to ring the changes, splash the cash and improve the quality of the squad.

One position he could look to bolster is left back.

Daniel Pudil has been the main operator in that department but he has shown his frailties this season and Carvalhal could be looking at options to compete with the 31-year-old at left back.

Sheffield Wednesday should look to sign Sam McQueen.

This move seems feasible on loan and possibly even as a permanent deal, depending on whoever is in charge of Southampton next season.

Sam McQueen has shown plenty of promise but he is behind two top left backs in Matt Targett and England international Ryan Bertrand.

The 22-year-old needs to escape from St Mary's (at least on loan for a season) to benefit his long-term future.

Regular playing time in the Championship would help the England youth international fulfil his potential and become a top performer.

Sheffield Wednesday is the ideal location for Sam McQueen as they will be pushing for promotion and spending lots of time attacking, which is good because he likes to bomb forward.
