As was confirmed last Wednesday, Souleymane Doukara has left Leeds United by a mutual termination of his contract and now looks set to head to Turkish club Osmanlispor.

Whilst it was a good move on the part of the club to offload any dead wood that they have before really getting stuck into the season ahead, there’s another good reason behind Doukara’s departure.

Along with Marco Silvestri, Giuseppe Bellusci, Mirco Antenucci, Dario Del Fabro, and Edgar Cani, Souleymane Doukara was a member of the infamous ‘sick-note six’.

The sick-note six were a group of six players who deemed themselves unfit to play in a game against Charlton back in 2015 and the United fans have never forgiven them for it.

Despite the club captain at the time Sol Bamba coming out in support of his teammates to try and calm the fans down, the damage had been done.

Doukara’s departure makes him the last of the infamous group to leave the club and put the last few seasons, which haven’t been kind to Leeds’ fans, behind them.

With Thomas Christiansen now at the club and putting together some great results for the Yorkshire club that see them sat in third place after five games played, the club’s fans can start to forget about the past few years.

Leeds is a club that has consistently fallen short of expectations ever since their relegation from the Premier League in 2004, and having six players refuse to play on one occasion showed how far they had dropped.

With this season looking the most likely in recent memory to end in promotion to the Premier League, Leeds fans finally have the future to look forward to.
