It wasn’t long ago that Andreas Weimann was a player that was excelling in the Premier League, but a move to Derby County appears to have seriously hindered his career, with the 25-year old not knowing where he will be playing his football during the 2017/18 campaign.

Weimann struggled for opportunities at the Pride Park Stadium during the first-half of last season, making just 12 first-team appearances for Derby and finding himself with the under-23s.

However, things were looking up for Weimann in 2017, with the forward enjoying a successful loan spell with Wolverhampton Wanderers, which was set to become permanent this summer for £1.5m.

Weimann’s future has taken another twist, with the proposed deal now off, due to Paul Lambert’s departure from Molineux.

Derby had seemed keen for Weimann to leave the club this summer, which leaves the Austrian’s future uncertain, with no real indication of where he will be playing his football next season.

There is very little doubt that Weimann’s career has stalled since he moved to Derby, and a move away from the Pride Park Stadium, where Gary Rowett will also be looking for a fresh start with the Rams, will probably be best for all parties.

Weimann has shown throughout his career that he can be an excellent player, and will surely attract interest this summer from Derby’s Championship rivals, particularly at the price the Rams were willing to let him move to Wolves for.

Any Championship club willing to hand Weimann an opportunity to reignite his career this summer could potentially be landing themselves one of the bargains of the transfer window.
