Some players just end up being a problem, matter not how hard a manager works and making them a success.

Jason Cummings is looking like he's going to be a problem for Nottingham Forest.

The talented 23-year-old had the world at his feet when he first arrived in England from Hibernian, but since then it's fair to say things have gone awry.

He fell out of favour under Aitor Karanka and a loan spell with Rangers last season didn't bring an immediate return to Scotland on a permanent basis. The goals just didn't flow, with just one in a Forest shirt and two at Ibrox. Contrast that with 55 scored in 93 starts for Hibs.

That brought us to the summer where it became very clear he wasn't in the plans of the Forest manager. A surprising loan move developed, he ended up in League One with Peterborough. That could, and should, have been the making of the fiery Scot.

He set off at that level like a bull in a china shop, grabbing six goals in his first six matches. It seemed as though Steve Evans had found himself a real gem, but once again it went sour.

He was filmed smashing up his own flat and that curtailed his goal scoring exploits. By the time Christmas rolled around, Cummings was surplus to requirements at London Road having scored just two more EFL Trophy goals, and was hunting another move.

It's reported that both Lincoln City and MK Dons came in for him, but he didn't fancy a spell in League Two. Instead, he moved to League One leaders Luton Town, hoping for a bit of glory and perhaps a chance to show Posh what he could do.

He's made three substitute appearances in three months, scoring once.

At the end of the season, Jason Cummings will leave Luton Town and once again, he'll be looking for a way out of the City Ground.

There will be offers, but this time he has to be very careful what he chooses to do.

It might seem attractive moving to a club on the up like Luton, but he has to put his mercenary head on and think what is best for him.

Sitting on the bench of a title winning team doesn't help Jason Cummings, scoring goals does.

He might have turned down Lincoln City and MK Dons once, but those sort of teams are where he's going to put together the broken pieces of his career.

He has to get back into a side on a regular basis and he has to start scoring goals, before that early promise is gone for good.
