Bramall Lane will host Sky Bet Championship football for the first time in seven years when next season gets underway after the Blades romped to the League One title during the 2016/17 campaign.

Manager Chris Wilder secured 100 points in his maiden season at the helm of his boyhood club and under his management there is certainly reason to believe that the club is going places.

Wilder has been busy adding to his squad ready for an assault on the Championship and three players have already penned terms ahead of the 2017/18 season.

The Blades do hope to bring more players to the club, however, and extra emphasis is likely to be placed on recruiting players who boast the relevant Championship experience to make the team competitive.

One area that the Blades do look particularly light in at present is at the back and a new central defender could be right at the top of Wilder’s wish list.

Nottingham Forest defender Jack Hobbs could be set for a move away from the City Ground this summer and if that is to be the case then he would be a quality addition for the Blades to consider.

The 28-year-old has struggled for a place in the Forest side over the last couple of seasons mainly through injury, but also due to not being fancied by various managers at the East Midlands-based club.

Hobbs could do with a fresh start and the chance to play regular first-team football in South Yorkshire could be just the boost his career needs at this moment in time.

With Forest boss Mark Warburton likely to sign his own recruits this summer, it is unlikely that the club will stand in Hobbs’ way if a decent bid is submitted over the coming months.

The fact that the ex-Liverpool youngster has spent most of his career playing in the second tier would ensure that he offered the Blades’ squad a vital injection of experience ahead of the kick-off in August.

Sheffield United fans, would you welcome Hobbs to the club this summer? Let us know in the comments below!!!
