Sheffield Wednesday face a busy summer ahead with plenty of players expected to leave the club and replacements set to come in.

Jos Luhukay will want to put his own personal stamp on the squad he inherited from Carlos Carvalhal.

And one area Luhukay will be looking to strengthen is at centre-half.

Glenn Loovens leaves this summer after many years of good service and Joost van Aken has been hit and miss.

The Owls need one or two new centre-halves to compete with Tom Lees at the back.

And Luhukay should aim to bring in Frederico Venancio and Reece Burke to start a new-look partnership in central defence.

Venancio was on loan at Hillsborough last season and really impressed Sheffield Wednesday fans.

The 25-year-old played 20 league games and a further five cup matches for Wednesday during a loan spell from Setubal and he should make a permanent move.

The Portuguese defender will reportedly cost the Owls just £800k to snap up, which is an absolute snip in today's market.

Luhukay should partner him with West Ham United defender Burke, who could be set to leave the Hammers this summer.

The 21-year-old is young and already has three years of Football League experience under his belt during loan spells with Bradford City, Wigan Athletic and most recently Bolton Wanderers.

While he still has a lot of learning to do, Burke is dominant in the air, comfortable on the ball, able to play as a right-back and still very young, meaning he would be an excellent addition for Sheffield Wednesday.

Luhukay should look to sign both of these players and explore the possibility of pairing them as a solid long-term centre-half partnership to help the promotion push.
