Jordan Hugill’s double at the weekend secured Middlesbrough’s first win in four matches and moved them back to second in the Championship table.

Tony Pulis handed the on-loan striker his sixth start since arriving at the Riverside and scored his first goals for the club in the victory, too.

The striker starred in the comfortable win and was a threat throughout his 69 minutes on the pitch.

Hugill’s brace came in five first-half minutes close to half-time that shocked the Latics and left them with no reply despite a spirited second-half performance.

No player managed more shots than the 26-year-old who notched seven during his afternoon - four more than any other player on the pitch.

The only two that were on target, however, were the goals - one being a penalty -  with a further five wide of the mark. But his efforts proved vital in how the match would pan out.

The amount of shots he was able to have was indicative of Middlesbrough’s forward persistence and ability to create chances for the striker to have efforts on goal.

Every third touch Hugill had was a shot - as he only managed 21 touches of the ball during the 69 minutes that he played.

His passing statistics were impressive too, managing to complete 86 per cent of his passes throughout the match.

Hugill attempted two dribbles and completed one, but was far more impressive when the ball was in the air winning 4 aerial duels having attempted ten offensive battles and two at the other end of the pitch.

His all round game was impressive and he was the main man up top and showed his capabilities in that position ahead of an out-of-form Britt Assombalonga.

It will be to some frustration that the international break is now upon Boro with Hugill finding some kind of form.

But he will have two weeks now to refine his shooting to get more on target and give him a better chance of scoring more goals on a more consistent basis.

The three points and upward movement to second in the table was down the West Ham loanee and that will be solace to the striker who has had a tough time of it since moving to the Riverside.
