With the Summer approaching fast, there could be a situation emerging at Wigan Athletic that needs urgent attention.

Their talisman and go-to guy for goals, Nick Powell, will surely be hot property this transfer window and it may be hard to turn down a big bid for the former Manchester United man.

Powell was sensational last season and although he started this campaign on fire, he's slowed down as have Wigan. With just four points from 21 they've fallen away from the top six, but as yet they're not in serious trouble.

That could change if Powell were to be sold, but Paul Cook now has intimate knowledge of the lower divisions and could well find a ready-made replacement if he looked hard enough.

One player we feel could make the step up to play in the Championship is Scunthorpe United midfielder Josh Morris. If Wigan were to get a huge fee for Powell, it would only take a portion to lure Morris away from Glanford Park.

The two players are very similar, although Morris is older than Powell and would represent a functional purchase rather than one to sell on for a profit. If Wigan are serious about remaining in the Championship, it might be functional they need to focus on.

Morris spent five years at Blackburn Rovers without ever properly breaking through, but being born in Preston means a Wigan move would be closer to home for him. He's certainly got the ability, 31 goals from 86 appearances for the Iron is testament to that.

It isn't just goals Powell brings though and therefore Morris would need to turn provider too. At Scunthorpe he's grabbed games by the scruff of the neck and dragged his side forward, exactly what Powell has done for the Latics.

As Scunthorpe have struggled this season, Morris hasn't managed any assist, but last year he created five goals for team mates. If Wigan are forced to sell Powell in January, then Morris would be just the man to replace him in the long term.
