After coming so close to promotion in each of the past two seasons, Sheffield Wednesday will look to make it third time lucky as they go again in their long pursuit of returning to the top flight of English football.

Boss Carlos Carvalhal has put together one of the strongest squads in the division on paper, and must now ensure his side fulfil their potential and complete their minimum expectation of a top six finish.

Each member of the squad must step up and be accounted for, but one man who could emerge as the man to lead his side to glory is Sam Hutchinson, with the former Chelsea youngster now entering his fourth year at Hillsborough.

The 27-year-old was phenomenal for the Owls last year as they reached the play-offs, and his consistency was a demonstration of his quality at this level.

Hutchinson is a leader in the side, and his versatility is a tool that Carvalhal will utilise to great effect again next year, with the player capable of operating in both midfield and the heart of the defence, putting in performances of equal quality in both positions.

Hutchinson has the ability to inspire those around him, and even has the ability to contribute with the odd goal or two.

The player reads the game extremely well, breaking up attacks and acting as a springboard from which Wednesday can counter, and will be integral to the success of his side next season.

If Hutchinson remains fit, the Owls won’t concede many goals, and with the strike force at Carvalhal’s disposal, will surely be automatic promotion contenders.
