According to reports from the Shields Gazette, Championship club Fulham have launched a £15 million bid for Premier League striker Dwight Gayle.

The Newcastle forward has been subject to a host of different rumours linking him with a move away from St James’ Park with Leeds and now Fulham emerging as the favourites for his signature.

The 26-year-old only joined Rafa Benitez’s side last year and enjoyed a fruitful campaign in the Championship.

Gayle bagged himself 23 goals and two assists in 32 league games as Newcastle snatched the Championship title away from Brighton late on in the campaign.

Here at FLW, we think this would be a fantastic signing for Fulham.

Last week, Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic admitted that his squad had a serious goal scoring problem, saying:

"We need to find a solution. We have our team to attack from the wide positions but we didn't create enough chances."

So far it hasn't really been fixed.

That admission came after Fulham managed just two goals in their opening four Championship games but have since gone on to beat Ipswich 2-0 away from home in their most recent league game.

Despite that convincing win, Gayle would guarantee plenty more goals than that.

The former Crystal Palace striker has a fantastic ratio of goals to games at Championship level.

That ratio currently stands at 1.7 goals per game in England’s second division making him one of the most lethal forwards to play in the league in recent years.

The reports suggest that Newcastle are looking for a figure nearing £20 million to part ways with the player and we think Fulham should pay it.

At times last season Fulham were playing some of the best football in the division but they’ve suffered from a slow start this time around and bringing in a player like Dwight Gayle can fix all of that.
