Peterborough United are planning an audacious loan bid for out-of-favour Nottingham Forest defensive midfielder Liam Bridcutt, according to a report in the print edition of the Sun on Sunday (June 16, Page 60), after the 30-year-old managed four appearances in all competitions at the City Ground last season.

Bridcutt has only managed 28 appearances since arriving from Leeds United in August 2016, following a career that has also seen permanent spells at Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion and Sunderland along with loan spells at Yeovil Town, Watford and Stockport County.

So, would Bridcutt be a good signing for Peterborough?

We discuss........

Toby Wilding

"This could be a shrewd move from Peterborough.

"Bridcutt will surely want out of The City Ground given his lack of game time under more than one manager there last summer, so a move from Peterborough could be an appealing one to him.

"Having played so little football recently, it may take a bit of time to get him up to full fitness, but once he does get their, his ability at League One level - as shown by his promotion with Brighton some years ago - suggests he could yet prove to be an asset for Posh."

Kealan Hughes

“On paper he should be an excellent signing.

“He hasn’t played in the third tier since he was the pivotal member of a Brighton side which walked the league in 2008/09.

“However, his career is now certainly on the decline, and that has been exacerbated by fitness and injury problems. If those same problems occur again then he could be a very expensive mistake by Peterborough.”

Gary Hutchinson

“It would be, although I do think their chairman has said it’s a no-go.

“Bridcutt certainly needs to give his career a jump-start and I believe League One is the place to do it.

“Whether that is Posh or not remains to be seen, but he’s got the talent to be effective at that level.

“Forest will just want him off the wage bill.”

George Brooks

"This would be a fantastic signing for Peterborough.

"Bridcutt is a quality midfielder, has plenty of experience and should be able to make an immediate impact for the Posh.

"His experience of playing in the Championship should be able to help a team who will be hoping to challenge for promotion next season."

Jacob Potter

"This makes sense.

"Bridcutt has hardly featured for Nottingham Forest in recent years, and he’s surely going to be heading for the City Ground exit door over the summer.

"He’d be a useful player to have in a number of Championship teams, so it would be a brilliant signing by Peterborough if they pull it off.

"They’ve been spot on with signings so far in this transfer window, and they’ll definitely be challenging for promotion next season."
