Tommy Elphick’s move from AFC Bournemouth to Aston Villa has been a disaster for both the player and Villa, with the defender struggling for any kind of form during his stint at Villa Park.

Particularly under Steve Bruce, Elphick has struggled massively, losing the club captaincy and finding himself cast aside, with others preferred.

This season, John Terry and James Chester have been Bruce’s first choice centre-back pairing, and following the addition of versatile Axel Tuanzebe, Elphick has been pushed further down the pecking order, despite a rare chance towards the end of 2017.

Reports from Sky Sports have now suggested that Villa are close to agreeing to Elphick’s exit, with the defender seemingly close to joining Reading FC on-loan until the end of the current season.

Should he join, the 30-year-old will link-up with Reading, who sit 18th in the Championship table.

Following the latest transfer update, here is how Villa’s supporters reacted…
