Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has strengthened his squad with just five days to-go until the new Championship season kicks-off, with the signing of West Ham United striker Jordan Hugill on a season-long loan deal, as confirmed on the club website.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Hammers in 2018, spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough in the Championship scoring seven goals in 41 appearances for Boro.

So will Hugill prove a good signing for QPR and will he start?

We discuss.........

George Dagless

"I would think so to both aspects of this question.

"Hugill didn't have much success at West Ham but he is a player that knows the Championship well and knows how to score goals in it.

"QPR needed to get a striker in this summer and they have managed to do so.

"I'd argue they probably could do with another one as well but in fairness, Hugill is a player that could really star next season and so he should be a regular for Mark Warburton's men.

"I like what the R's have done this season transfer-wise and there's no reason why they can't have a productive campaign for sure."

George Brooks

"This looks ideal on paper. Even though Hugill struggled to make an impact at West Ham, he's still a good striker.

"He scored a few goals on loan at Middlesbrough last season, but he didn't start that many games and Britt Assombalonga was the main striker.

"He's shown in the past that he's capable of scoring goals in the Championship though and the striker will be determined to prove himself following his disappointing spell at the London Stadium.

"I think he's more than capable of making an impact at QPR and I expect him to be one of the first names on the team-sheet under Mark Warburton this season."

Gary Hutchinson

“I think he’ll have to start. They needed a boost up front and he’s got that little bit of quality they missed at times last season.

“It’s a surprising move in my eyes. Hugill was hot property 12 months ago but it just goes to show how quickly the world of football changes.

“I can see him doing well for QPR. He looked a bit lost at times in the Middlesbrough system, it didn’t suit him at all. Mark Warburton plays a different style to Pulis and I can see Hugill thriving in that setup.

“He’ll definitely play; he might be their key player this season. In terms of ‘marquee’ signings, this is certainly the biggie at Loftus Road.”
