‘This looks an astute signing’ – Man Utd plot deal to sign defender: Opinion

Stoke City old-boy Darren Fletcher, who looks to be heading for a behind the scenes role at Manchester United, looks like having a hand in Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s potential move for Potters youngster Nathan Collins, according to a report in the print edition of The Sun (May 19, Page 63).

Solksjaer is keen to breath life into his faltering United squad, ahead of his first full season in charge at Old Trafford and an influx of young talent can be expected, with 18-year-old centre-half Collins fitting the bill, according to Fletcher.

So would Collins prove a good signing at Old Trafford?

We discuss………

Toby Wilding

“This looks an astute signing.

“The fact that Collins is making senior appearances for Stoke at the age of 18 certainly indicates the potential he has.

“That is often enough to get the big sides interested, and it may be a smart move from Manchester United to secure his services before anyone else does, even if it is unlikely that he will go straight into the Old Trafford starting XI.”

Gary Hutchinson

“It would be all about potential.

“Collins has played a couple of times, but it’s what he might turn into that excites fans.

“I don’t believe these big clubs hoarding talent is a good way for the English game to go.

“I’d like to see the lad getting more game time at the bet 365 Stadium.”

Jacob Potter

“They can’t be serious?

“Collins has impressed me in his three appearances for Stoke this season, but I just can’t see him having the time to force his way into the Manchester United side anytime soon.

“I’m all for planning for the future, but this wouldn’t be a good move for both parties as United need a short-term solution at the moment.”
