Gaetano Berardi is a survivor.

You just have to see the injuries he’s picked up since joining Leeds United in the summer of 2014, one of 17 recruited by then new owner Massimo Cellino.

He was an unknown at the time.

In fact all 17 were. But they have all gone now except for the Swiss defender.

His longevity at the club epitomises Berardi’s personality as well as his development as a footballer.

A right hothead when he arrived, he got sent off on his debut if I remember.

Leeds now have a very good, reliable player.

Some people try to compare him to Billy Bremner. No chance! Billy was a one-off.

And he could score some spectacular goals. Berardi is yet to register his account, though there have been one or two memorable near misses.

Besides he’s a right back that can play left back.

More Paul Madeley?

Always effective but did his job without any limelight.

It was easier to be under the radar in those days.

Berardi has become a cult hero at Leeds thanks to the sheer amount of media on tap now.

I would like to see Elland Road when he does eventually gets a goal.

The rivets in the stands on all corners of the stadium will detach.

He’s the only one that came, saw and conquered.
