The inquest into Leeds United's incredible collapse that cost them promotion back to the Premier League not once, but twice, may barely have ended, but already planning for next season is well underway, and it seems plans are already being put into place to secure key men at the club.

According to reports in The Yorkshire Evening Post, the club are already planning further talks with manager Marcelo Bielsa in order to keep him at the club next season, with sources close to the Argentine increasingly confident that he will be at Elland Road when the season starts again in August.

If these reports are true, then they will be a massive boost for Leeds. Since Bielsa arrived at the club last summer, the 63-year-old appears to have engineered a complete overhaul around the club, changing everything from the facilities at the club's Thorp Arch training ground, to the way that he and his players train and prepare for matches.

It is hard to see how anyone could replicate the immensely intense approach Bielsa has taken to his work since arriving at the club, meaning that if he was to move on, the club may well have found themselves facing the prospect of a complete reset back to square one. Something that would mean the Premier League would have felt even further away than it does now.

As well as giving the club's hopes of a return to the Premier League a boost, it is also a reminder for Leeds of the appeal the club still holds, given who they appear to have held off in the race for Bielsa.

According to reports in the Italian press, Serie A giants Roma are also interested in a move for Bielsa, so keeping him at Elland Road could be even bigger than first seemed.

With Roma likely to be able to offer European football as well as a place in the top flight, you wouldn't have blamed Bielsa had he opted to take his chance in Italy. It seems however that the Argentine is set to turn down that offer in favour of staying in Yorkshire, which may well serve as a reminder to those around the club of just what it is still capable.

That indication of the size; potential and ability of the club will no doubt give those around Leeds a big confidence boost when it comes to believing in what this side could still be capable next season, and after what has just happened, boy do they need that.
