This latest Nottingham Forest transfer update will surely worry Lyle Taylor: Opinion

Nottingham Forest are said to be lining up a January move for a striker based in Serie A, as per a recent report by The Athletic.

It is said that a loan move with a view to a permanent deal has been mooted in some quarters, thus underlining Steve Cooper’s clear desire to improve his squad in the final third of the pitch.

At present the former Swansea City boss has two main striking options at his disposal – Lewis Grabban and Lyle Taylor.

Whilst Grabban has been in sparkling form during the Welshman’s tenure in charge, Taylor has largely continued the struggles that he experienced under Chris Hughton.

The striker was originally brought to the club during the summer of last year, with big hopes and expectations being placed on his shoulders after his exploits for both Charlton Athletic and AFC Wimbledon earlier in his career.

However since then Taylor has struggled to recapture the type of form that saw him become a fan favourite with both of the aforementioned London clubs, often cutting a frustrated figure on Trentside.

In truth the numbers behind his spell at Forest do not lie. Taylor has only scored eight goals in close to 60 games for the Reds and more often than not has found himself either being overlooked entirely or used off the bench as Grabban continues to get the nod up front.

This certainly isn’t a situation that the player wanted to find himself in after making what was dubbed as the biggest move of his career as he signed on the dotted line at the City Ground following strong links with a transfer to clubs such as Celtic.

The news that a new striker could also be on the horizon will also spell further bad news for the 31-year-old, especially as he is approaching the last year of his contract with Forest.

After plying his trade under three managers at the club, the jury has so far been out on the charismatic frontman and only time will tell if he really has a future under Cooper after failing to live up to the hype so far on Trentside.
