Birmingham City have confirmed the appointment of Pep Clotet as the club's caretaker Head Coach ahead of next season following the dismissal of Garry Monk earlier this week.

The club made the announcement in a statement on Thursday afternoon, where they also confirmed that James Beattie, Darryl Flahavan, Sean Rush and Ryan Needs will stay on in the club's coaching set-up.

The new team will also see midfielder Craig Gardner make the step up to a Player-Coach role at St Andrew's, as the club finalise their coaching structure ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Clotet's appointment has been made after former Blues boss Garry Monk was sacked earlier this week, despite helping the club overcome a nine-point deduction to secure a 17th-placed finish last term.

Birmingham also announced the latest update via their Twitter account:

Plenty of Blues fans offered their opinion on the new appointment, with many of them criticising the club for maintaining Monk's coaching team without Monk himself.

Others also expressed their doubts over Clotet's track record, given the fact he only lasted half a season in his previous managerial role at Oxford United in the 2017/18 season.
