‘This is what we live off’ – These Reading fans react as club offer update on impressive record

Reading may be struggling in the Championship right now but there was one tiny crumb of comfort for Royals fans as their record for the number of points in the second-tier remains intact.

The club tweeted out to supporters on ‘106 day’, with no side in the league capable of matching the total set by Steve Coppell’s promotion winners back in the 2005/06 season.

Current leaders Norwich are on 78 points with eight games to play which means even winning every game would see them fall short of the 106 the Royals got.

Clearly, it’s a remarkable achievement and it means that Coppell’s side, who went on to do very well in the Premier League after that, will always be remembered.

However, some supporters felt this wasn’t the right time to be celebrating about that achievement when the side are currently just one point and place outside the relegation zone.

Here’s some of the reaction from twitter…
