Sunderland  manager Jack Ross will have been rocked by the news that 30-year-old forward Chris Maguire will be out for up to eight weeks, after breaking his leg, it has been confirmed on the club website.

The 30-year-old, who has won two caps for Scotland, fractured his fibula in the first half of the Black Cats' 4-2 win over Gillingham on Tuesday night

Maguire moved to the Stadium of Light last summer from Bury and has scored seven goals in 36 appearances.

So how big a blow is the loss of Maguire for Sunderland?

We discuss.....

Louie Chapman

"It is.

"Jack Ross has plenty of options in those wide areas but Maguire has that quality to win a game out of nowhere.

"It will be up to others to step up now."

Jacob Potter

"I think they can cope without him.

"Maguire may have been a regular starter for Jack Ross’ side, but they do have a number of alternatives they can turn to in his absence.

"He won’t be much of a big miss."

Gary Hutchinson

“They’ve got a big squad, so not so much of a blow in my eyes, no.

“They can drop Sterling in, bring Gooch into the fold or shuffle the pack in a hundred different ways.

“For my money, this can be soaked up easily within the squad.”

Jay Taylor

“This is very annoying for Ross, as he gives them something different in attack.

“Dynamic and proactive in the final third, Maguire offers a different outlet to Sunderland.

“Without him, they could prove to be a little too predicative and not expressive enough in the final third.”
