It was a shaky start - perhaps understandable after the play-off heartbreak last time around - but Carlos Carvalhal's Sheffield Wednesday are fighting back and are already up to seventh position.

It's largely the same squad as the one that came so close at Wembley back in May, not losing too many faces and bringing in the likes of Steven Fletcher, Almen Abdi and Adam Reach.

Their goal is simple after last season - get to the Premier League. With some of the talent they have in their squad they're more than capable, even with the likes of Newcastle spending big this summer.

It's also an interesting and good way of finding out the best squads in the league by comparing who would make it into a 5-a-side team, splitting those who have strength-in-depth from those having talent in the right positions.

Using the current squad, FLW's Ryan Evans takes a look at who would make it into the ULTIMATE Sheffield Wednesday 5-a-side team...

GK: Keiren Westwood

A no-brainer really.

Whilst the 31-year old hasn't had the best of starts to the new season, his great form from the last campaign is perhaps one of the reasons why the Owls got to the play-off final last term - keeping 15 clean sheets and conceding just 29 goals in 37 appearances.

The experienced 'keeper has 19 Irish caps as well as over 100 appearances for Coventry and Carlisle, and almost that figure for the Hillsborough club too.

He could probably go on being an assured figure in the Wednesday team for many years to come, and perhaps can help them return to the Premier League.

DEF: Tom Lees

The centre-back was linked with a move away from the Steel City in the summer, although that is testament to what a great season he had.

He's been almost ever-present in the 2016-17 campaign so far, captaining his side on more occasions than not.

He'll add a great defensive ability to this team, thwarting the opposition's strikers and using his composure to get his team back on the front foot.

Lees would be a great asset to any 11-a-side team in the division, and probably every 5-a-side team, too.

DEF: Sam Hutchinson

Sam Hutchinson

Whilst he was utilised primarily as a holding midfielder by Carvalhal last season, this season Hutchinson has dropped into the back four alongside the aforementioned Lees.

This could well work out very well, and for the purposes of 5-a-side, it could be even better - the usually defensive-minded midfielder can use his passing ability to play out from the back.

MID: Fernando Forestieri

One of last season's players of the season, Forestieri may have caused some controversy back in August but is definitely one of the flare players in this squad; he has three goals and two assists already, making him the Owls's joint top scorer.

His attacking and technical ability would allow him to keep the ball on a string and become this side's most influential player.

ATT: Gary Hooper

The last player that's needed in this side is a goalscorer - someone to put the ball in the back of the net.

Hooper has played in every single game this season, and has three goals to his name to add to the 13 he bagged last year.

Wednesday are climbing back up the table, but if they want to challenge for promotion Hooper's goal tally will have to continue to rise as the season develops.
