Caleb Ekuban is expected to leave Leeds by making a permanent move to Trabzonspor, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

The striker spent last season on loan at the Turkish club, and they are said to be keen on exercising the pre-agreed option to make his signing permanent.

The 25-year-old joined Leeds in 2017 but has only made 21 appearances, and in that time scored just two goals for the club.

Naturally, he is not part of Marcelo Bielsa's plans moving forward and it is a deal which suits both clubs.

The Yorkshire Evening Post report that the deal involves a seven-figure sum being handed over to Leeds, which would see a good return on the player they purchased for £500,000 from Chievo.

With Leeds likely to get rid of a number of fringe players this summer, our writers share their views on whether this is a good move from the club...

Toby Wilding

"I think this is the right move.

"It simply hasn't happened for Ekuban at Leeds, although the striker appears to have settled in well at Trabzonspor, so making his move permanent feels like a good deal for him.

"Leeds too will need to raise for funds and clear wages to strengthen in the summer transfer window, and this will help them to do that, so they too should be happy to see this move go through."

George Brooks

"It's the best option for both parties.

"Things just haven't worked out for Ekuban at Leeds, so it makes sense for him to leave the club.

"He has been able to make an impact for Trabzonspor though and appears to have enjoyed his time in Turkey as well, so I'm sure he will be looking forward to signing for them permanently.

"Leeds will be able to use the money they get for Ekuban to strengthen their squad and fans should be excited about the possibility of new signings this summer."

“Ekuban just didn’t cut it in English football and it looks like the right move for Leeds to oversee.

“Of course, Mateusz Klich’s turnaround was impressive, but what are the chances of that actually happening again?

“Bielsa can only do so much with these players, and you can’t expect him to turn every flop into a top Championship player.

“Ekuban’s chance has gone.”
