Coventry have signed teenage winger Luke Thomas from Championship side Derby County on a half-season, the Rams have confirmed.

The 19-year-old began his career at Cheltenham Town before joining Derby on a two-and-a-half-year contract in January 2016 for an undisclosed fee.

Thomas has made two substitute appearances off the bench for Derby last season against QPR and Bolton Wanderers.

So was this good business by the Rams to let him go out on loan?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

Yes, he’s not quite ready for Championship football so a move makes sense.

Coventry like a winger, Jodi Jones was effective for them last season and they’ll use Thomas to his strengths.

It’ll be nice to see him get some game time too, he’s a player who could achieve so much.

You never achieve it by sitting on a bench though, League One will be a great place to cut his teeth.

Jay Taylor

Very good move.

The youngster will benefit from a loan move with the influx of new arrivals at Pride Park.

Thomas is highly rated at the Championship side and affording him the opportunity to get regulate first-team football will be invaluable for the 19-year-old.

It is a six-month deal so the winger will be able to play regularly with the hope that he can make a sustained case to pay in Derby’s first team.

Sam Rourke

This is the right move by Lampard.

Thomas looked very promising in pre-season for Derby and I thought he may be edging nearer to the first-team.

But the Rams have an array of attacking talent and it would have been tough for Thomas to get regular game-time.

This is a great move all round.

George Dagless

I think so.

Thomas is part of a handful of good young players at the club and so it's time he starts to get minutes.

I think Coventry is the ideal club for him.
