Middlesbrough have done some shrewd business this summer, but there's only been one player that supporters have been asking the club to announce for a number of weeks now.

As soon as the first rumours emerged on Boro's potential acquisition of Martin Payero, there was a hysterical reaction with the Teessiders potentially about to spend £6 million on an emerging South American talent.

Boro's interest was initially played down, however things soon moved quickly and after his appearances for Argentina at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Payero has finally become a Middlesbrough player on a three-year contract.

Aside from playing for his country this summer, Payero particularly impressed for Banfield in the Copa Diego Maradona tournament, supplying five assists from midfield in six games for his team-mates (transfermarkt).

According to TEAMtalk, the fee for Payero is in the region of £5 million and he will slot into a midfield at the Riverside which is lacking following the departures of George Saville and Lewis Wing, and the 22-year-old will have to impress a lot to justify the apparent fee he cost.

He's the one that fans have been clamouring for for a whole month now though and they've been sharing their delight via social media.
