Sheffield United have been lingering in the third tier of English football since 2011, and many Blades fans are becoming increasingly frustrated at the lack of quality football that has been played at Bramall Lane in recent years.

However, under the new stewardship of Chris Wilder and his assistant Alan Knill, the Blades are looking to make their long awaited return to the second tier of English football next May.

Wilder has already looked to solidify United's defence by signing defenders Chris Hussey, James Wilson, Jack O'Connell and Jake Wright.

Here though, FootballLeagueWorld writer Chris Strawson identifies the lethal front THREE that will be looking to fire Sheffield United back into the Championship...

Billy Sharp

First comes last year's Sheffield United player of the year Billy Sharp.

The Sheffield-born man fired in 20 goals in 41 appearances last year in what was his third spell at the club he supported since he was a boy.

Sharp is widely regarded as a clinical goal poacher and has consistently scored goals wherever he has been. The 30-year-old re-signed for the club for the third time in July 2015 for an undisclosed fee from rivals Leeds United.

He will spearhead United's attack for the forthcoming season in the hope that he can repeat the goal-scoring heroics of last season and fire his hometown club back into the Championship.

Sharp has previously played for clubs such as Southampton, Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Reading, and has a wealth of experience playing in the Football League which will help the younger talents in and around the club.

Che Adams

Che Adams is regarded as one of the brightest young talents in the lower divisions, and has been attracting the attention of numerous Championship and even a few Premier League clubs.

Adams has already started proving, even at 19 years of age, that he is a man for the big occasion - a trait all top players have.

It was on the biggest stage where he announced his arrival to the United faithful in the League Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham Hotspur in January 2015 at Bramall Lane. He replaced Jamal Campbell-Ryce after 74 minutes and five minutes later he had scored his first goals for Sheffield United with two goals in just over two minutes.

A solid league campaign followed where he made 40 appearances, scoring 12 goals.

Throughout that season, Adams showed off all his attributes such as his clinical finishing and blistering pace as well as his footballing brain which, with a little bit of nurturing, could lead him to becoming a future Premier League striker.

Marc McNulty

Marc McNulty

Marc McNulty has had somewhat of an indifferent spell at Sheffield United since signing from Scottish Club Livingston in May 2014.

During his first season with Sheffield United, McNulty finished as the club's top scorer with 10 goals, although in his second season at Bramall Lane he failed to make the same impact and, in November 2015, he was shipped out on loan to League Two side Portsmouth.

He quickly rediscovered his goal-scoring form at his new club and later in the November, he scored a hat-trick in a 6-0 win over York City. McNulty scored six goals in 11 appearances before his loan was extended to the end of the season by Portsmouth, leaving many Sheffield United fans bemused as to why he was not recalled.

However, with new manager Wilder at the helm, McNulty is keen to impress and force his way into the starting line-up and continue where he left off with Portsmouth at the end of last season.
