Lee Johnson has done an excellent job at Bristol City since leaving Barnsley, leading them away from relegation trouble to a comfortable 18th place finish last season - and the ambitions this season are higher.

Some people are tipping them for a top half finish and if Johnson is to achieve this, he will need to add to the squad and keep their key players.

Amongst their most crucial players are 27-year-old centre-back Aden Flint who scored an impressive 6 goals last season, and held the back-line alongside Nathan Baker and Luke Ayling.

Up front the key man was Jonathan Kodjia who proved a revelation up front with the 26-year-old scoring 18 goals in his first season in English football, and is now renowned as one of the best strikers in the Championship.

He has been linked to Derby and Aston Villa but Bristol City must keep him if they are to achieve their high ambitions.

Other key players include youngster Joe Bryan and attacker Lee Tomlin, who was on loan from Bournemouth and scored 6 goals earning him a permanent move.

Here is a lethal front three the Robins can use next season....

Number 10 - Lee Tomlin

A stranger tactic to use with two strikers but one that was adopted by Lee Johnson towards the end of the season.

In front of the back four he played a flat midfield three of Bryan, Pack and Reid with Lee Tomlin playing as the number 10 behind Jonathan Kodjia and Aaron Wilbraham.

Lee Tomlin would prove to be one of the best number 10's in the league and his form last season was excellent.

Out of favour at Premier League Bournemouth he went on loan to Bristol City scoring 6 goals in 18 games laying on plenty of chances for the strikers.

His exciting flair and technical skill teared Championship defences apart easing through them with mazy runs and excellent skill.

His outstanding performances earned him a permanent move and he will play a big part next season.

He has plenty of Championship experience with Peterborough and also with Middlesbrough where in the 2014/15 season his 7 goals helped Middlesbrough reach the play-off final.

Tomlin is without doubt one of the best midfielders in the Championship.

Striker - Jonathan Kodjia

The French striker was one of the biggest revelations in the Championship last season, and is now one of the best strikers in the league.

After showing excellent form in France with Angers he moved to Bristol City for £2 million and scored 18 goals crucial to them staying up, and City will need him to replicate this form if they are to challenge for the top 6.

He dominated the goal scoring charts being one of the top scorers in the Championship and City's second top scorer Aaron Wilbraham was nowhere near him in the charts.

With Wilbraham ageing, he may need a new strike partner next season that will bring even more out of the Ivory Coast international.

Striker - Zach Clough

The 21-year-old striker is one of the best young talents in the Football League but after his Bolton side were relegated he will be seeking a move to a higher division side.

He scored 7 goals in 26 games making him the estranged Bolton team's top scorer and considering he missed large chunks of the season, he has showed he could easily get double figures in the Championship.

After Bristol City had a £2 million offer rebuffed in January they will be hoping Bolton will change their hesitance now that their relegation is confirmed, and Clough will surely want a move now.

The pacy striker could be an excellent partner for Kodjia and would be a statement of intent by an ambitious Bristol City side.
