Whilst the arrival of Gary Rowett has revolutionised and rejuvenated a faltering Birmingham City side, the exciting young manager will be looking to bolster his attack with some new signings this summer.

He demands hard work and dedication from his players, but is lacking a natural goalscorer to score upwards of twenty goals per season. Clayton Donaldson has vigilantly led the line for the past few years, but the ageing Jamaican needs some support from other attacking players.

Birmingham's strikers in recent years have underwhelmingly included the likes of Matt Green, Wes Thomas and Denny Johnstone. All of these players are now plying their trade in lower leagues as they are not up to Championship standard.

Rowett will be determined to add one or two new faces to the forward ranks at St. Andrew's so that he can add some ruthlessness and end product to their game.

Here, FootballLeagueWorld writer Jay Williams identifies the lethal front THREE who could score the goals to help Birmingham seriously mount a promotion challenge...

RF - Alex Pritchard

pritchard

Alex Pritchard's development stalled last year as he failed to play many games for Tottenham or West Brom.

The young attacking midfielder was so influential for Brentford the year before and helped the Bees reach an unexpected play-off spot.

He scored 12 times in 45 games for Brentford and had previously enjoyed loan stints at Swindon and Peterborough. But the Spurs midfielder needs to be playing to improve his game, and Tottenham might part ways with the 23-year-old in the best interests of both parties.

The former England Under-21 star could move to Birmingham as he would be a regular starter and provide the chances for other attackers, as well as chipping in with goals himself.

He is a proven performer in the Championship so would be a shrewd signing by Rowett.

CF - Clayton Donaldson

Clayton Donaldson is expected to continue in his centre forward starting role next year.

The 32-year-old is underrated as he does lots of pressing up top as well as running into the channels and holding the ball up.

If he has the right service, he would probably score more goals too.

The Jamaica international is strong, powerful and a nightmare to defend against because of his bulky physique and impressive pace.

He is a perfect central figure for Birmingham to base their attacking players around, and should be good for another couple of seasons at least.

LF - Adam Armstrong

For the left side of this attacking trio, Birmingham could try to prise Adam Armstrong away on loan from Newcastle United.

Armstrong was exceptional last year at Coventry, scoring 20 goals and leading the line impressively despite the fact that he is still a teenager.

The England Under-19 international might be behind some top strikers in the Newcastle pecking order - such as Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dwight Gayle and Ayoze Perez - so Rafael Benitez might look to loan him out again.

Birmingham would be a suitable destination as the Championship is the next logical step in Armstrong's development, and they could offer him regular game time.

However, Benitez might have reservations about loaning within the same league and might subsequently return the 19-year-old to Coventry or send him to the SPL.
