It has been revealed that any chance Leeds United have of landing Birmingham City goalkeeper David Stockdale in January relies on how much of his wage they are willing to pay, report the Birmingham Mail

Leeds were reportedly keen on bringing the experienced shot-stopper in during the summer but could not strike a deal with the Blues, bringing in Jamal Blackman on loan from Chelsea instead.

But with Blackman suffering a broken leg in a reserves match last week the club are now firmly back in the market for a goalkeeper and are reportedly interested in Stockdale again.

Any potential loan deal will depend on how much of the 33-year-old's wage they would be willing to pay, however, with Garry Monk keen to get him off the bill in order to strengthen his own squad.

Stockdale moved to St. Andrew's at the start of last season after being released by Brighton, making 36 appearances and keeping six clean sheets.

He was sent out on an emergency loan to League One side Southend United earlier in the season where he made three appearances having been banished from the first-team by Monk.

Youth product Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been Marcelo Bielsa's first choice 'keeper at Elland Road this season but a few shaky performances in recent weeks have led to doubts over his ability to help win promotion.

The verdict

Stockdale would be a decent short-term fix but nothing more.

Frankly, it is all a bit uninspiring. In the position they are, you would fancy Leeds to be able to poach any highly rated 'keeper they wanted.

But the Blues man would be a quick fix and maybe that is best for them.
