Aston Villa were nothing more than bystanders as Reading cruised to a 2-1 at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading were totally dominant in an extremely easy win for the Royals, who rolled over Villa, who returned to the stadium where they won their first away game in 437 days last year.

No such luck this time round, as an own goal from Glenn Whelan and a first Reading goal for Modou Barrow secured a win for the home side, the very least they deserved.

Their lead was only made uncomfortable with five minutes to go as Conor Hourihane netted a consolation goal out of nowhere, but Villa still couldn’t find an equaliser.

Villa held a measly 33% of possession and mustered just three efforts on target all night, leaving manager Steve Bruce’s future in serious doubt and the Villa faithful extremely unhappy, with the club second bottom in the Championship with just one point:
