This has been one enormous rollercoaster of a season for Charlton Athletic and there look to be a few more twists and turns to go before it finishes.

They may well be the only club in the Football League whose biggest issue at the moment is not the Covid_19 pandemic. A dramatic civil war has kicked off at The Valley between chairman Matt Southall and majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer which is showing no signs of ending any time soon.

But, the Addicks are not immune to the impact of Covid_19, and it is looking very likely that all matches in England will be suspended for the time being.

So, what are we going to write about? Well, we thought this would be a good time to take a step back and look at the season as a whole so far.

With the help of WhoScored, we take a look at Charlton's best XI from the season so far...

Dillion Phillips has been excellent between the sticks for Lee Bowyer's side this season so it is no surprise at all that he makes the cut, with a back four of Ben Purrington, Jason Pearce, Tom Lockyer and Adam Matthews protecting him.

The manager has experimented with plenty of formations so far this season, but it is the 4-4-2 diamond which has been deemed their most effective by WhoScored.

Darren Pratley, therefore, takes the role at the base of the midfield, with Josh Cullen and former loanee Conor Gallagher on either side.

It is Erhun Oztumer who takes the place in attacking midfield, beating off competition from fan-favourite Jonny Williams, despite only accumulating one assist in just 14 appearances so far. It has not been a strong area for the Addicks this season.

There is a surprise in the strikeforce as well.

Lyle Taylor is, of course, included, having been a much-needed talisman on so many occasions so far this season, but he is partnered by Jonathan Leko.

Leko, who racked up four goals and five assists in 21 games, before heading back to West Brom with an injury, edged out Macauley Bonne who has scored eight and assisted two in 24.
