Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa will be facing up to the loss of top-scorer Kemar Roofe for up to four weeks, after picking up an ankle injury in a pre-season friendly whilst on tour in Australia, as confirmed on the club website.

Though assessed as only being a strain, Roofe has returned to Thorp Arch for treatment, with the Whites season due to kick-off on Sunday August 4th, away at Bristol City.

But with Roofe sidelined for a month, should Bielsa be considering bringing in another striking option with the transfer window still open?

We discuss..........

Alfie Burns

“It’s a tricky one for Leeds to juggle because Roofe will be back by the end of August and hoping to start, and Patrick Bamford is another option Leeds have.

“Another option would be nice, but Bielsa won’t want to overload his squad with players he won’t need in two or three months.

“For me, I’d like to see him promote Ryan Edmondson to the bench. I feel the 18-year-old brings something different with his physicality, whilst he has a keen eye for goal.

“At the end of the day, goalscorers will bag at any level, and Edmondson has what it takes to step up.”

Ben Lang

"I think the fact Roofe is set to miss the first few matches of the season is simply further evidence that Leeds should be recruiting another striker during this window.

"With Roofe sidelined, Bamford is the only senior striker at the club and I'm not convinced Leeds will want to be relying solely on him whenever Roofe is injured. Roofe had a few injury troubles last term, so it seems a huge gamble to only have two strikers.

"They could possibly turn to development side striker Ryan Edmondson as Bamford's back-up, but he lacks Championship experience and I think the Whites also need another clinical goalscorer in their ranks.

"Leeds should be working hard to sign a cost-effective striker who can score goals in the Championship, but I can't see them signing another before the window shuts."

Toby Wilding

"For me, this is something they should think about.

"The apparent lack of an alternative for Roofe certainly seemed to hamper Leeds at times towards the end of last season, and some would argue that it was one of the things that cost them automatic promotion back to the Premier League for next year.

"You would therefore have thought that the club would be keen to avoid facing a similar situation by failing to find someone to step into Roofe's position at the start of this season, rather than face the prospect of losing the early ground in the race for promotion.

"Leeds have yet to really spend big in the summer transfer window, and you feel they should have the funds available should they wish to do so here, particularly given the fee they received for the recent sale of Pontus Jansson to Brentford, which could be put towards any potential signing here, arguably finding a benefit from looked to be a loss with the Swede's departure."
