Sheffield United are currently top of the Championship after 12 matches and are reportedly already on the lookout for January recruitments.
According to Football Insider, the Blades are on the lookout for more creativity as they look to sustain a promotion charge with Birmingham’s Jota, a potential New Year recruit.
After 12 matches this season, the Blades are one point clear at the top ahead of West Bromwich Albion who are narrowly behind them in the standings.
Despite not being at the peak of his powers this term, Jota has managed to be one of the more creative outlets for Garry Monk’s side and has managed to score once and register four assists this season.
The 27-year-old has played in every minute of every league match this term for the Blues and has been one of their standout individuals at St. Andrews.
Promotion to the Premier League wasn’t on the agenda this term, but after their impressive start, a charge towards the top-flight could be on the cards with more additions needed to maintain a push towards the top-flight.
And the Birmingham man has been earmarked as a potential addition to add more creativity to keep their position at the top of the division.
With that, we asked our FLW panel their thoughts on the recent update regarding Sheffield United’s reported interest in Jota.
We discuss…
Chris Gallagher
What an exciting signing this would be.
Even though he took time to adapt, Jota is a key player for Birmingham and would give Sheffield United the spark in the final third that they sometimes lack.
There are doubts as to where he would fit in given the system Chris Wilder uses, but if the manager can get him back to his best, the Blades would have a game-changer in a key attacking position.
Louie Chandler
A handy one, if not entirely necessary.
The one thing the Blades currently lack is somebody to provide a bit of flair at times, but it is not something that is essential to a Chris Wilder side.
George Harbey
This is really surprising, as Jota is one of the best wingers in the division on his day.
He cost Blues a lot of money, and I just don’t see why they’d look to sell him apart from financial reasons.
Therefore, I believe that Jota would be a fantastic signing for the Blades - he can play either out wide or behind the striker, so could be a shrewd acquisition to play in behind Sharp and McGoldrick
Jacob Potter
Jota would be an excellent signing for the Blades.
His creativity would be precisely what Sheffield United are missing since the departure of David Brooks.
With Jota in the side, he could be the missing piece to the jigsaw as Chris Wilder's side challenge for the title.
