Nottingham Forest are close to agreeing on a deal to sign free agent Claudio Yacob.

The former West Bromwich Albion midfielder is currently unattached having left the club at the end of last season and their relegation from the Premier League.

According to the Nottingham Post, Yacob is having a medical at the City Ground ahead of agreeing to terms on a move to the Championship side.

Once the deal is official, the 31-year-old will become Aitor Karanka’s 16th signing of the summer after the club sealed the free transfer of Panagiotis Tachtsidis on a two-year contract on Wednesday afternoon.

Ben Watson, Jack Colback, Adlene Guedioura, Liam Bridcutt and Ryan Yates had already been competing for a first-team place this summer, and that will now include the combative midfielder.

With that said, we asked our team of writers their thoughts on the impending arrival of Yacob to Nottingham Forest.

We discuss…

This is pure madness.

What on earth are they doing? It's like there's some sort of prize for having more players than anyone else.

Where's the harmony? Where's the cohesion?

It doesn't bode well for Forest at all. There's too much going on, too many players coming in.

George Dagless

It is a good signing on ability, but now they have a stockpile.

Surely this means certain players aren't getting anywhere near the side if he comes in.

Ryan Yates, Liam Bridcutt perhaps even Ben Watson, given his tough start, could all be in trouble - especially with Tachtsidis already coming in.

Karanka is going to have to make some big calls.

Sam Rourke

I'm baffled at this.

Nottingham Forest have an abundance of options at centre-midfield and I just don't get why Karanka needs another one?

There is no doubting that Yacob will do a job in the Championship, but there are other teams in the league who would have benefited from him more than Forest.
