Stoke City manager Nathan Jones is standing firm if his want-away England goalkeeper Jack Butland wants to leave the bet365 Stadium this summer, after slapping a £23 million price-tag on the 26-year-old, as reported in the print edition of the Sun on Sunday (June 9, Page 61).

This valuation has stalled the interest expressed by both Bournemouth and Crystal Palace and means that both clubs would need to move players on, if they were to fund the transfer.

So is £23million a fair valuation for Butland?

We discuss........

Kealan Hughes

“He is of that level of quality to demand that price, it may just catch people by surprise because Stoke are in the Championship.”

"There will be a lot of interest in him from Premier League clubs, so Stoke have the right to demand whatever they want given he still has two years remaining on his contract.

"Butland is still relatively young too and has the potential to improve, so £23 million would still present value for money to whomever signs him."

Gary Hutchinson

“Not a chance, no.

“He’s a decent keeper, but that’s silly money.

“If I were a potential buyer I’d be looking at £10m, tops.

“If they want more they can keep him, there are other keepers out there for half the price who could be just as good.”

Toby Wilding

"This is probably fair.

"A player with his experience at both Premier League and international is never going to come cheap, and particularly one who is as sought after as Butland.

"Stoke will want to bring funds in for a replacement, and given Butland has two years remaining on his contract at the club, they are in no need to sell him for a reduced price this summer."

George Brooks

"Butland is a fantastic goalkeeper and he's got plenty of experience.

"I'm not sure if he's worth £23million in today's market or not, but I can't see to many teams wanting to pay that much for him to be honest.

"It could be smart move by Stoke, as they might be able to keep hold of him for another season."
