Will Keane is out for six weeks and will miss the bulk of Ipswich Town’s relegation run in.

The Hull City striker on loan at Portman Road has scored three goals in his last six matches, but will now miss a chunk of the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring problem.

RTE Ireland is reporting former Town boss, and current Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has suggested the prognosis to the forward’s hamstring injury when discussing an international call-up with the 25-year-old.

McCarthy has been keeping tabs on the forward who is set to switch allegiance to the Republic of Ireland.

And the ROI boss was discussing Keane amongst other things earlier in the week when the likelihood of a Keane call-up emerged, and he divulged the period of absence.

Ipswich are bottom of the table and are nine points from safety, but Paul Lambert will now be handicapped in his options up front with the in-form attacker set for a spell in the treatment room.

In light of the news, we asked our team of FLW writers their thoughts on the injury and asked how big a blow it is for the Tractor Boys and their survival hopes?

Here’s how they responded.

Jay Taylor

“This is not good news for Ipswich.

“Town are doomed, and this latest injury – for apparently six weeks – is a hammer blow to their survival hopes.

“Things were looking up for Keane before the injury with a goal every other game.

“Now he looks set to be on the sidelines with his loan club in desperate needs for points to try and avoid their inevitable relegation.”

Gary Hutchinson

“Honestly?

“They’re going down anyway so in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter.

“Harsh I know, but they’ve got to face facts.

“They’re off to Accrington next season, even if they suddenly signed Ronaldo on loan.”

Louie Chandler

“A huge blow.

“Ipswich had very little chance of staying up regardless of Keane's fitness but this seems like the final nail in the coffin.

“They struggled to find a goal scorer this season but they will need to find another one now.”
