Sheffield Wednesday have seen a real resurgence under Steve Bruce since the turn of the year rising to within touching distance of the play-off places in the process.

But a 1-0 loss to Leeds United at Elland Road last weekend but a halt to that charge for the time being although the mood remains positive around Hillsborough.

That mood might have taken a bit of a knock on Monday night, however, when Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson appealed to the EFL to investigate the club for suspected Financial Fair Play breaches, report the Telegraph.

The Boro boss has been riled by the fact that he and his club have sold star men in order to comply with the financial regulations whilst others appear to work their way around them by unfair means.

He has overseen over £40million worth of sales this season to get their finances in order and has accused Wednesday, as well as Derby County and Aston Villa, of sneaking around the regulations.

It is safe to say that the Hillsborough faithful did not take the news too well...
