West Bromwich Albion youngster Taylor Gardner-Hickman signed a new long-term contract to extend his stay at The Hawthorns until 2026, the club have confirmed this morning.

The 20-year-old wing-back has impressed many Albion fans with his performances this season, stepping in admirably on the right for Darnell Furlong against Hull City and arguably doing enough to retain his starting spot.

However, it was his performance against Coventry City that impressed some the most, moving into central midfield in the midst of an unavailability crisis in the middle of the park and putting in a wonderful display alongside Alex Mowatt at Coventry City, before moving back to wing-back in the following game against Reading with Conor Townsend then isolating with Covid-19.

Performing well every time he has been called upon by Valerien Ismael, there has been fury directed towards the latter when he's been dropped from the starting lineup, but now looks set to be part of the first-team squad for the long term after already showing he can perform and thrive at this level.

At this stage, he will be responsible for filling in gaps and may get more chances to shine with injuries, suspensions and Covid-19 cases likely to come into play throughout the remainder of the season.

With the youngster currently acting as Furlong's deputy, showing he can be relied upon to perform well in the 26-year-old's absence, he is likely to be retained for the rest of 2021/22 and this gives Ismael and the promotion chaser's recruitment team one less position to address with his future now secured.

This will come as a relief to them, but how do West Brom supporters feel about this latest contract news? We take a look at a selection of responses to the extension on Twitter.
