Leeds United's hunt for a new manager continues, with Marcelo Bielsa seemingly top of the list to take over from Paul Heckingbottom.

However, a new name that has been thrown into the equation for the top job at Elland Road is Argentinian Matias Almeyda, according to Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Would the 44-year-old be a shrewd appointment for the Whites?

We discuss...

George Dagless

It would be a risk.

Almeyda has a stellar CV from his days as a player but his managerial one will still generate question marks for Leeds fans if he arrived.

Of course, he might prove to be a shrewd appointment but I think the Whites could find better options.

Ben Barkworth

Almeyda doesn't have the same reputation as Marcelo Bielsa, but he wouldn't require a overhaul of the club like the fiery Argentine.

His managerial CV is impressive with the CONCACAF Champions League being the standout achievement, so he would be a good signing.

Alfie Burns

If Bielsa doesn’t arrive, this is the type of coach Leeds need to be targeting, not Steve Bruce.

Leeds are structured for a foreign coach, who is used to the Director of Football model.

Of course, there is an element of risk to appointing someone like Almeyda, but now is the time for a risk at Elland Road.

Chris Gallagher

This is extremely risky.

We saw at Rangers the risks of bringing someone in from Mexico and he has never coached in Europe never mind England before.

That's not to say he is a bad coach but he doesn't have the same profile as a Bielsa and may struggle to attract the same calibre of players.

The Leeds board will be making a very brave decision if they appoint Almeyda and one that has to be a success.
