Derby County are considering a move for Wigan's Gavin Massey, with the winger approaching the final few months of his current deal.

The 26-year-old has featured 20 times in the league for the Latics this season, scoring five goals, which includes a brace in the remarkable 2-1 win at Leeds United on Good Friday.

Massey has impressed with his pace and direct style, with Football Insider claiming that Frank Lampard wants to bring him to Pride Park in the summer.

However, the Rams will face competition from local rivals Nottingham Forest for the player, whilst Paul Cook wants him to stay too.

But, is this the sort of signing that should please Derby fans?

Here our writers look at how Rams supporters should be feeling about this rumour...

George Brooks

"Massey would be a great signing for Derby, so fans should be excited by this news.

"He's shown over the past few games that he has what it takes to become a top player in the Championship.

"With Harry Wilson and Mason Mount likely to leave in the summer, Massey would be a good addition to the Derby squad and it would be enough better for the Rams if they could get him on a free transfer."

Ben Lang

"I think this would be a shrewd move by Derby.

"Massey displayed the damage he can cause when he scored a double to help Wigan see off Leeds on Friday. Bielsa's side couldn't handle his pace.

"With Derby most likely losing Harry Wilson in the summer, Derby fans will be happy to see their side linked with another exciting forward to bolster their ranks."

Chris Gallagher

"This is exciting news.

"Massey would be a smart bit of business for the Rams as he is on a free transfer and would bring something to the squad.

"He is direct, quick and at 26-years-old he will have his best years ahead of him, so Derby should look to finalise this deal if possible."
