Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk freshened up his ranks with the deadline day signing of Josh Windass, who arrived on loan from Wigan Athletic, as was confirmed on the official club website.

Windass, 26, has scored four goals so far this season in 16 appearances in the Championship at Wigan, having joined the Latics in August 2018 from Rangers and has since been a regular for them in the second tier under Paul Cook.

So is Windass a good addition at the Owls and do you feel he will start regularly?

We discuss..........

Ned Holmes

"I think this is a smart move from Wednesday but I can't see him being more than a bit-part player.

"Windass had an impressive season in the Championship for Wigan last term and should be more effective for a Wednesday side that are usually in the ascendancy in games.

"However, using both him and Barry Bannan in central midfield might leave the team fairly unbalanced and I can't see him displacing the Scotsman in the side.

"With that in mind, Windass may be able to give Garry Monk's men the boost they need to get their season back on track."

Phil Spencer

“This is an excellent signing for Sheffield Wednesday.

“In truth, I was just surprised that Wigan Athletic let him go in the first place.

“Windass has experience playing for big clubs in his career and I think the challenge of turning out for the Owls is right up his street.

“He may have to work for his place in the starting XI, but once he gets in I think he could be a real asset for Garry Monk’s side.

“The hope is that his versatility will be enough to see the Owls through the second half of the season.”

Toby Wilding

"This is an interesting one.

"Given Windass has found himself in a side struggling for survival in the Championship throughout his time at Wigan, you have to wonder whether he is the sort of player Wednesday need in the push for promotion.

"Despite that, given the level of interest there has been in Windass this month from sides targeting promotion from the Championship, it could be argued that this will still present something of a coup for the Owls.

"Indeed, given some of the comments Garry Monk has made about his current squad recently, it would be a surprise if Windass wasn't given a decent chance to impress at Hillsborough, and you feel he will be determined to prove that he is capable of competing for promotion at this level after 18 months looking over his shoulder somewhat at Wigan."
